Who We Are…
Our founder, Sherry Fisher, is a successful sign language interpreter and entrepreneur. After graduating from the TCC interpreting program and working for several years as an interpreter and instructor, she started her first business, making thoughtful, well designed products that educate, are user friendly, and interactive. Building on this idea, Sherry recognized the need for user friendly, all inclusive, interactive curriculum that would open up the access for all children, Deaf, hard of hearing, language deprived, limited language children as well as hearing, and would encourage and increase learning for any and all classrooms and ages. Join us in making a positive change. Share in our dream of opening up total access curriculum through American Sign Language (ASL).
The Problem
How would you like to teach a class without the proper tools, curriculum or resources necessary to perform your job? Having worked in the field of education I have experienced for myself, and dealt with parents who are frustrated with the lack of Deaf and hard of hearing American Sign Language (ASL) curriculum. There are minimal, if any resources for Deaf children, language deprived children, or any child who struggles with language development.
We know that 80% of Deaf and hard of hearing children are born to hearing parents, and then we have children who struggle with language development such as but not limited to, autism, downs syndrome, auditory delay and processing disorders. Many times parents and educators who work with these children are told signing will slow down their education and ability to learn English. This is not true, studies have proven, incorporating ASL into the classroom is beneficial for all children. I’m not just referring to a sign book in the classroom, I’m talking about a curriculum that incorporates ASL, reinforcing the English along the way, creating bi-lingual children from a very young age. What a bonus to our Deaf and HOH children to be able to communicate with all their peers, because the classroom is a place of open communication including all students with the same material. What about games that can be inclusive of all children, hearing, deaf, or language delayed for our birth to preschool children? What about from preschool to elementary? The options are few if any.
Our Solution
Silent spark LLC will be offering a steadily increasing product line:
Starting with ages 0-3, 3-5, then introducing annually, increasing age and grade, new products and technology, videos and more. Developing products to grow with the children/students.
Toys and Games: carefully selected toys and games that appeal to the target market, the parents, educators, children.
Books and Curriculum: there should be a selection of books and curriculum that appeal to the Deaf, hard of hearing and nonverbal. Specifically to the parents and educators of this target market, so that these interested adults can go to our site and order books for their children/students. In addition, there is also a selection of books to be ordered by and for the kids to read.
QR codes will be provided with each qualified purchase that will direct the consumer to my private website and/or YouTube where interpreters are signing the books and curriculum related items in American Sign Language.
Apparel: that shares the language and culture for more inclusion and that will appeal to the target market, parents, educators and children/students.
The Internet reinvents itself every three months, or even faster. Therefore, our strategy for future development is to remain positioned with enough flexibility to adapt new technologies, and adapt to changes quickly.
